What is the Au Pair Program?

The Au Pair program provides young people from different countries with the opportunity to pay to look after the children of American families, get to know American culture and improve their English language. This program was created in the eighties of the last century in response to the need of working parents for reliable persons to take care of their children. Through the Au Pair program, young participants become part of an American family, gain new experiences and learn about life in America.

The Au Pair program is intended for people between the ages of 18 and 26 who love children and have experience in babysitting. To apply, you must have at least a high school diploma, a category B driver's license, an intermediate level of English and no criminal convictions. Also, it is necessary that you have not previously been rejected for an American visa and that you have not been a participant in the Au Pair program in the last two years.

The Au Pair program offers numerous benefits that make it extremely attractive: the host family provides paid airfare in both directions, accommodation and food, which makes it easier to adapt to a new environment. Participants receive an annual allowance of $10,000, which provides financial stability during their stay in the US. In addition, funding a course at a community college provides an opportunity for further education and training. The program also provides two weeks of vacation after six months of work, as well as a free weekend at least once a month. Participants have health insurance for the duration of the program. In addition to all that, the Au Pair program allows you to get to know American culture, improve your English, create new friendships, travel and adventure, as well as the opportunity for additional education through courses at local colleges.
